Mechanism of Action

Kisspeptin is a neuropeptide encoded by the KISS1 gene. It binds to the G protein-coupled receptor KISS1R (formerly GPR54). Kisspeptin neurons in the arcuate and anteroventral periventricular (AVPV) nuclei are the primary upstream regulators of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons. By stimulating GnRH release, kisspeptin drives the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the anterior pituitary, making it a master regulator of reproductive endocrinology and pubertal onset.
