Mechanism of Action

Octreotide functions by binding to somatostatin receptors (SSTRs), particularly subtypes 2 and 5, which are coupled to inhibitory G proteins. This activation inhibits the release of various endocrine and exocrine hormones, including growth hormone (GH), glucagon, insulin, and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), by modulating intracellular signaling pathways such as phospholipase C and calcium channel activity.
