Mechanism of Action

Triptorelin acts as a potent agonist of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor. Upon initial administration, it causes a transient surge in luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) release. However, continuous exposure leads to the downregulation and desensitization of pituitary GnRH receptors, resulting in a profound and sustained suppression of LH and FSH secretion, which subsequently reduces sex steroid production to castrate levels.
