Safety and efficacy of ARA 290 in sarcoidosis patients with symptoms of small fiber neuropathy: a randomized, double-blind pilot study.
A 22-patient randomized sarcoidosis pilot reported improvement in the small-fiber neuropathy screening score, but pain and fatigue scores improved similarly in both groups.

Research summary
In this double-blind, placebo-controlled exploratory study, 12 participants received ARA-290 and 10 received placebo over four weeks. The small-fiber neuropathy screening list improved more with ARA-290. However, mean Brief Pain Inventory and fatigue scores improved equivalently in both groups, and depressive symptoms did not change. Clinical and laboratory assessments raised no safety concerns during this short study.
Limitations and interpretation
The sample was small and follow-up was short. Improvement in a symptom screening score is not proof of sustained pain relief, nerve regeneration, or long-term safety. The null between-group pain and fatigue findings must be considered alongside the positive screening result.
