Melanotan 2

Non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist studied for tanning and libido effects.

Mechanism of Action

Melanotan 2 (MT2) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It is a non-selective agonist of melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R). Activation of MC1R stimulates melanogenesis (skin tanning). Activation of MC4R in the CNS is associated with appetite suppression and sexual arousal effects, similar to the mechanism of PT-141. MT2 is widely studied in animal models for its combined pigmentation and libido effects.
