PT-141 (Bremelanotide)

Melanocortin receptor agonist acting on CNS pathways to influence sexual arousal.

Mechanism of Action

PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It is a non-selective agonist of melanocortin receptors, primarily MC3R and MC4R. Unlike PDE5 inhibitors which act on the vascular system, PT-141 acts directly on the central nervous system to modulate sexual arousal pathways. Activation of MC4R in the hypothalamus is believed to be the primary mechanism by which it influences sexual desire and arousal.
